How to Quit Smoking Tip #3

Hello All

Here we are with tip #3 on how to quit smoking, right out of our book How I Quit My 4 Pack a Day Cigarette Habit (and you can too)

“We smokers have many many reasons for smoking, I won’t pretend to know yours, but at some point the nicotine in the cigarettes got our minds and bodies addicted. We can rationalize that we aren’t, we can quit when we want, we don’t need to smoke we like to, it’s not affecting our body in any way. Be honest with yourselves you have said something like this or thought it at some point. Nicotine really is a wonderfully evil substance, we don’t know it has us until its to late. It can feel fantastic when you get some after not having it for a while, like after a long nights sleep or a couple of hours in a meeting. It can scare us to death thinking we can’t have our nicotine for a while or ever again!

What I hated to admit was that something had control of me, that I was not controlling it, I don’t know about you but that really got my goat. You have to admit that it’s got you, at least I did, so I then could know my enemy and defeat it. I got mad at this addiction and I wanted to get rid of it, that was a giant step in my progress toward quitting. Sounds silly but it is all part of the preparation. “

How To Quit Smoking Naturally Tip #2

Hello all,

Here we are with tip number two on how to quit smoking.

When I decided that I finally wanted to quit, (remember tip #1) I also made the decision to do it naturally. Now  that doesn’t mean I was going out to the woods or into a sweat lodge until my habit was gone, nor did it mean I wasn’t going to shower and shave till I had beat the evil warlord nicotine! What it meant was, I made a choice not to use smoking aids.

There were two main reasons for my choice. Number one, the cost. When you start to look at prices for say, nicotine gum I thought wow it would be cheaper to keep smoking! Now I want you to know I’m not serious but here was my thought process. Nicotine gum right around $45.00 for 100 tablets, at the time I quit a pack of generic cigarettes was right around $2.50 for 20 cigarettes. Let’s see I was smoking 4 packs a day times $2.50 that comes to 80 cigarettes at $10.00 a day. Now again I’m just joking but if I used the gum and chewed 80 tablets a day it would cost me right around $36.00 a day. Now you get an idea of my twisted thought process and why I said it would be cheaper to keep smoking!

The second reason I chose to quit naturally may best be explained by this excerpt from my book, How I Quit My 4 Pack A Day Cigarette Habit (and you can too).

From the ending of Chapter 8, The Battle;

People asked me all the time while I was kicking the habit and after, why not use something, drugs, patches, nicotine gum? I cannot make this decision for you and you may benefit from some of these aids but I’ll tell you why I didn’t use them. I felt I was replacing one habit for another. I know it sounds foolish and it might be but in my mind I wanted to be rid of the addiction all together not step it down or wean it out I wanted it out of my mind and body quickly after I quit. I personally think that helped in the quitting process for me and I do know it gave me a great sense of accomplishment in doing it that way.  Don’t let my sense of pride hurt you in your battle, you need to do what’s good for you when you quit, the goal is to quit for good and whatever preparations you need for that go for it

So in summary, my natural choice to quit included, sugar free gum, sesame seeds. pretzel sticks just to name a few. You can quit with out all the aids if you truly want to quit and then make the choice to do it naturally.

More to come,

Dennis

How To Quit Smoking Tip #1

Hello all,

Here is the first in a series of tips to quit. I hope they help you.

Wow, here I am just passing my fourth year of being a successful quitter! I know successful  and quitter sound funny together but that is exactly what I am, a successful quitter and proud of it, especially since I had battled my smoking habit for over thirty-eight years! Over four years ago I wanted to quit smoking, I put a plan together and I ended up quitting. The reality of how well that plan worked hit home the other night. My wife and I were watching some show on television and a couple of the characters lit up a cigarette and pretended to really enjoy that first drag and then the slow… exhale. You know what I mean, as a smoker we all played that scene out  hundreds of time in real life. Well this is what hit me, I had no desire or even a tingle to want to do that myself and in previous attempts at quitting, I always did. I have not had a craving nor have I missed smoking at all since I got passed my first 25 days off of nicotine.

The first thing you must do to stop smoking is really very simple and extremely hard at the same time. You must want to quit.  If you don’t get to that point nothing else matters. You can say I want to try, or I need to, I should quit, those statements are not the same as wanting to quit. I tried to quit hundreds of times in the past, I would make it maybe three hours or two days and once for two years but in all those attempts I failed. I came to understand that in all those tries, I really did not want to quit, I just pretended to quit. I can not begin to tell you what will make you want to quit, that is a deeply personal thing for you. For me I woke up one morning and after hacking up the proverbial lung for ten minutes realized I couldn’t keep doing this, that is what started me on my path to wanting to quit smoking.

More to follow.
